Roofing in Phoenix
The widest range of roofs in the Valley, because Phoenix has been building continuously for eighty years. What is on your roof depends almost entirely on which decade your street went up.
What we see here
Phoenix roofs, specifically.
Central Phoenix and the older corridors carry a lot of 1940s–70s housing, and with it far more low-slope and flat roofing than the newer suburbs. The mid-century builds that give those neighbourhoods their character also gave them roofs that need coating systems rather than tile. Push north and west into the later subdivisions and it turns over to concrete tile.
On the flat and low-slope roofs it is almost always the coating rather than the structure. A foam roof past its recoat window is a maintenance problem that became a replacement. On the older pitched stock, it is shingle that has simply been in the sun too long.

Phoenix in particular.
Phoenix is also the worst of the heat island. A roof deck here runs hotter than the same roof twenty miles out, and that shortens everything above it.
