HVAC

A roof inspection puts us in your attic and on your roof, which is exactly where the ductwork, the line set and, on a lot of Valley homes, the unit itself live. So we ask the question nobody else on the roof will: how old is your AC?

Rooftop air conditioning units and ductwork on a flat roof

Why a roofing company asks about your AC

An aging system usually announces itself where we're already working. A rusted drain pan in the attic, duct that has been crushed or pulled apart, a rooftop unit sitting on a curb that has been leaking into the ceiling for years. You can't see any of that from the thermostat.

If your system is getting old, we'll set up an evaluation with a qualified HVAC partner rather than leaving you to start over with a stranger. The work itself is done by a contractor licensed for it, under our contract. You deal with one company from the first visit to the final walk.

How it runs

We ask

During the roof inspection we note the age and condition of what we can see: the unit, the duct in the attic, and the roof penetrations around them.

Evaluation

A licensed HVAC partner looks at the system itself and tells you plainly whether it needs a repair, a replacement, or nothing yet.

One schedule

If the roof is being done too, the two jobs are sequenced so the unit comes off and goes back once, not twice.

One contract

One contractor answers for the roof, the unit and where they meet, which is where the leaks start.

Rooftop units and a new roof

A rooftop package unit has to be disconnected and lifted for the roof underneath it to be replaced properly. If that unit is near the end of its life anyway, the re-roof is the cheapest moment there will ever be to replace it: the crane, the curb and the flashing are happening regardless. Doing it a year later means paying for all three again, and cutting into a roof that's still new.

Questions we get asked

Do you install HVAC yourselves?

The work itself is done by a contractor licensed for it, under our contract. You deal with one company from the first visit to the final walk.

Can I get the AC looked at without doing the roof?

Yes. Call and ask for an HVAC evaluation on its own.

Will you tell me to replace a system that just needs a repair?

No. Same rule as the roof: if a repair is the honest answer, that's the answer you get, in writing.
